Here is a list of classes during January being offered at Bridges to Growth. They are being held at the Community Resource Center, 805 W. University Avenue, Georgetown. To attend any class, please pre-register by calling (512) 864-3008.

January 2012



14 (Saturday) “Developing Fine Motor Skills,” 10 am – 12 noon, taught by Rosalyn Fisher, M.S.OTR, Certified Trainer # 1074, $7 per person, payable to the instructor at the class. Participants will learn about activities that will encourage fine motor skills in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008.



17 (Tuesday) “Raising Financially Responsible Children,” 7 – 8 pm, taught by Doug Mitchell, Financial Services Professional, Free. Participants will learn ways to teach children about money; ways to help children earn and appreciate their allowance; develop good savings and investing habits; know the difference between “wants” and “needs”; become disciplined shoppers; view advertising critically. All attendees will receive a complimentary workbook, which contains exercises that will reinforce what they have learned during the workshop. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008.



17 (Tuesday) “Behavior Management at Its Best,” 7 – 9 pm, taught by Brad Mason, LPC, $15 per person, payable to the instructor at the class. Participants will be able to understand and implement the best ideas about behavior that science has to offer. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008.



19 (Thursday) "Conversational Spanish," 7 - 9 pm, taught by Daniel Mayorga, former Spanish tutor at California State University, $100 per person. Classes will continue until April 5, 2012. Participants are asked to bring a 1" ring binder to class to keep their handouts and notes from the class. Please pre-register, (512) 864-3008.



25 (Wednesday) “Creating an Individual and Family Health Plan,” 6:30 – 8 pm, taught by David Giese, Certified Life Coach, $15 payable to the instructor at the class. Please pre-register: (512) 864-3008.



26 (Thursday) “Healthy From the Start,” 6:30 – 8:00 pm, taught by Hope van der Heijden, MS, RD, LD, $15 per person, payable to the instructor at the class. Built on solid research about the importance of establishing healthy eating habits in children, this class is designed to empower parents and caregivers to foster a love of nutritious foods in children. In this interactive class, participants will discover practical tips and activity ideas designed to involve children in making healthy food choices. The class is designed for parents and caregivers of children 5 and younger. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008



31 (Tuesday) “Anger and Children,” 7 – 9 pm, taught by Brad Mason, LPC, $15 per person, payable to the instructor at the class. Participants will learn where rages and aggression come from, why children do it, and how to teach them to recognize, express, and manage emotional responses appropriately. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008.



FEBRUARY 2012



4 (Saturday) “Learning Math the Fun Way,” 10 am – 12 noon, taught by Yolanda Delgado, Certified Trainer #1056, $15 per person, payable in cash to the instructor at the class. Participants will learn teaching strategies in number and operations, geometry and spatial sense, measurement, pattern/algebraic thinking and displaying/analyzing data for toddlers and pre-K. Pre-registration is required (512) 864-3008.



Workroom Equipment



Bridges to Growth has a workroom available to the public on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am - 7 pm.



Laminating available for sixty cents per foot



Free die cutting if you bring your own paper. We have many different shapes to choose from. We sell 8 1/2 x 11" colored bond paper for three cents per sheet, or 12 x 12" colored card stock or specialty patterned paper for twenty cents per sheet.



The Cricut machine is an electronic die cutter enabling simultaneous multiple cuts, and the ability to make the shapes different sizes. The cost for use of the Cricut machine is $1.25 per quarter hour. We currently have two cartridges available with hundreds of different shapes available. This equipment is ideal for scrapbooking. We have an instructional DVD available for you to watch on premises explaining how to use the Cricut machine.



Other Services



Low-cost counseling is now available on Thursdays by appointment. The rate is $10 per one hour session. Counseling is provided by Brenda Broussard, Counseling Intern, and the sessions are held at The Nest, 2308 Old Airport Rd., Georgetown. To make an appointment, call (512) 864-3008.



Free parent hotline. Our parent educator, Lexy Largent, is available to speak with parents who may need advice on infant and toddler issues. Call (512) 864-3008 and ask to have the parent educator call you. If you receive voice mail, leave a message.



Hours of Operation



Bridges is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am - 7 pm.
