--an e-newsletter from Bridges to Growth, a program of The Georgetown Project-- Lending Library - Our Bridges to Growth Lending Library is operational again. We have toys for infants and toddlers, resource books for parents and childcare providers, children's books and games in English and Spanish. We have a 3-item limit with a 3-week loan period. If you need toys for older children, please check with the Children's Librarian at Georgetown Public Library. Bridges donated a large number of toys for older children to that library. Laminating and Die Cuts - Bridges is open for laminating and die cutting on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10 am - 7 pm. The cost to the public is fifty cents per foot for laminating. If you bring your own paper, die cuts are free. If you use our paper, the fee is three cents per sheet. We also have a copier you can use for ten cents per sheet. Children's Events Babysitting Training - Saturday, September 18, from 9 am - 4 pm. This class is designed for 11 - 15 year olds who are interested in becoming a certified babysitter. The fee for the class is $55, made payable to Steve Jennings, the instructor. Participants will learn about basic child care and basic first aid. They will learn how to keep themselves and others safe; how to help children behave. Participants should bring their lunch. Bridges to Growth, 805 W. University Avenue, Georgetown. Please pre-register (512) 864-3008. Toddler Time is scheduled for Wednesday, September 22, from 9:30-10:30 am. This is a free event for children from 9 months - 3 years old and their parent/caregiver. It is an hour of unstructured play, sensory play, songs, and a sharing time for parents. Classes Our Protective Parenting classes are ongoing on Saturday mornings, August 28 - September 25, from 10 am - 12 noon. Taught by Ashley Rogers, CARES Family Resource Center, Liberty Hill, the fee for the class is $180, payable at the first class, and includes 12 hours of instruction. The course includes child growth and development, behavior management, parent and child relationships, child care and physical care, effects of abuse, neglect and substance abuse, and caring for children with special needs. Childcare Provider Pre-service Training, Saturday, September 18, from 8:30 am - 5 pm, taught by Yolanda Delgado, $45 per person, payable in advance. Class includes: developmental stages of children; age-appropriate activities for children; positive guidance and discipline; supervision and safety practices; positive interaction with children; preventing the spread of communicable diseases; recognizing and preventing Shaken Baby Syndrome, SIDS, and understanding early childhood brain development. Taught by Carey Thornell and Cathy Gattuso, this free class will help parents to recognize developmental milestones; how to instill assets in their young child, basic parenting skills; and preventing SIDS and Shaken Baby Syndrome.
