Gene E. Davenport, Ed.D., joined The Georgetown Project as Executive Director July 1, 2007. Prior to this appointment, he served in a variety of educational leadership roles in Texas public education systems. Most recently he has managed his own consulting business, TEAMSHIP Associates, a training and development company. His experience includes mathematics teaching, athletic coaching, serving as a campus Principal, directing a number of district-wide programs, serving as superintendent of schools in two Texas school districts, and providing statewide leadership as an associate commissioner at the Texas Education Agency.
Gene's Bachelor's Degree and teaching certification are from Texas Lutheran University in Sequin, Texas; a Master's degree in public school administration from The University of Houston; and a Doctorate in public school administration from Southeastern Nova University in Florida. His superintendent certification training was earned at the University of Texas in Austin.
Communications and collaboration are areas of interest and experience that Gene has practiced in the various leadership roles that he has filled. He has been an advocate throughout his career for community collaboration to serve the needs of all children of all people in the school districts where he has served. He comments that the Georgetown Project is so aligned with his personal values and philosophy, that it is the only position that he would have considered at this point in his career in lieu of continuing his consulting business.
Rotary International has enhanced Gene's volunteer spirit by giving him a chance to serve beyond himself through the local community and international efforts of this dynamic non-profit organization. He has served as President of the Georgetown Rotary Club and as District Governor of District 5870 (which includes 63 central Texas clubs). He currently serves as Foundation Chair at both levels. Through this organization he has helped to implement projects at Williams Elementary School, raise funds for GHS and RHS scholarships, and special needs grants for the Georgetown Clinic and the Caring Place.
Gene and his wife, Janet, live in Jonah. Janet is a retired math/English teacher and also served as a counselor at Tippitt Middle School. They have three adult children and four grand-children. Much of their professional and personal lives have been focused on success for the youth of communities in which they have lived.  davenportg@georgetownproject.com; 512-943-5198 Office; 512-496-5967 Cell.
